Struggle to some extent makes us better people, but at some tipping point the negatives outweigh the negatives. And one could argue that you are killing yourself (to some extent) if you go beyond your physical or psychological boundaries.

An example of this principle in action is lifting weights and working out. We actually create microscopic tears in the muscle which allows us to get stronger. Some damage is beneficial but too much is detrimental.

But I think we should take such advice to embrace conflict and resistance in our life as overcoming it gives our life some extra flavor and variety, and builds a sense of accomplishment.
