RE: The monetary boundaries of friendship?

in #philosophy7 years ago

Money is a tricky subject in most relationships. Personally, I agree with you, @tarazkp, I find the idea of friends paying me absurd. It's weird, like, I got you a cup of coffee and you try to give me the money for it - seriously?
I always feel embarrassed when this happens and tell them to stop with that - it's nonsense. And no offense, but I think what your friend did with the phone is just silly... I don't see it as owing a favor, not for small things, I just think it's something friends do for each other. 'Cause they're friends.

Sort:

I saw it as silly too but knowing him, I can excuse his mentality (at least at that time). In Finland they rarely buy rounds of drinks because people try to take advantage of the opportunity. On their round it is a tap beer, when it is someone else's turn, Scotch Whiskey. As a result, everything here is paid for and split precisely and arguments break out if there is a euro either way.

Wow honeydue,

I guess the whole nature of friendships is undergoing a fundamental change. Weird for Middle-Aged persons like me especially.

@tarazkp I usually feel bad to eat or drink too much or something too fancy when someone else is paying, I'm always calculating what my meal costs.I guess that ain't logical either...'cause I don't see it that way when I'm buying.

@simivalleyjeff53 I don't know if it's a fundamental change...I guess some people have good manners and (what I see) as common sense and decency, some don't...same as always
