Stoic Quote of the Day - September 04/2024

in #philosophy5 months ago

Today's Stoic quote of the day focuses on how and when we should use our voice.

"I will begin to speak, when I have that to say which had not better be unsaid." - Cato the Younger.

Our first instinct is often to speak no matter what level of knowledge or insight we have, then when we do have something to say and need our voice, we might find that others are not so interested in listening to what we have to say.

However, if we are someone that rarely speaks, when we do it will carry more weight. How often do we see someone speak out about something and we think, wow, if he/she is calling attention that that then it must be serious!

Speak when it is important and meaningful and not just as a reflex.
