Stoic Quote of the Day - September 5/2024

in #philosophy5 months ago

_"A Stoic is someone who transforms fear into prudence, pain into transformation, mistakes into initiation, and desire into undertaking." _Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Sometimes, it seems so simple. Fear into prudence? Easy, right? Not always. More often than not our fear will lead us AWAY from prudence and toward panic. When we feel fear is when we should steel ourselves, take a deep breath, and ensure that we take a prudent step.

Pain into transformation. Over the course of doing interviews for my podcast, turning pain into transformation is a common theme. Pain and adversity can either strengthen us or break us, and using our pain and setbacks to analyze where things went wrong and how we can make ourselves stronger to buttress against any future setbacks is what will ensure that we have the capacity to survive those setbacks.

Being a stoic or attempting to live a stoic life isn't about not feeling pain or fear. It's about how we react to those things that matter.
