Call me jackson todd. I'm a poet, a philosopher, a scientist, and a human being. Every day I strive to be the ideal human, which I think is the ultimate goal of every person. Maslow's theory on self-actualization and self-transcendence describes what we strive for after all of our most primal needs are met. Once clothed, fed, and safely sheltered we can begin to look deeper into ourselves. If sufficiently intellectuallly and emotionally stimulated, we ask ourselves deeper questions involving the meaning of our lives. We ask if we have some general or specific purpose and look for things that motivate us. I think philosophy gives direction and the inquisitive mind, if willing to sacrifice preconceptions, will generally come to a conclusion that there is no single purpose. We were never assigned to any task and upon death we will not judged by what we did and did not accomplish. There is no given purpose, but I feel that there is a deeper inherited purpose rarely discussed.
How many species are able to communicate and coordinate with one another? How many species are capable of physically manipulating matter? Catalyzing and creating reactions that never would have taken place entropically. Only humans have the abilities discussed above because humans are the most conscious creature we have ever found. And perhaps there are other species in the Universe with similar abilities, but we have not yet found proof of intelligent alien life. We as a species achieved this domestication of the natural world and now change it to better suit our needs. Industrially constructing towers of garbage to show off our egos. Laying waste to the planet in exchange for profit margins and monetary gains. Nobody talks about how humankind has inherited the task of protecting the Earth. We killed Mother Nature and refused to take responsibility for the creation of a sustainable environment.
My perspective is that since we are the most conscious in the Universe, and in essence are an actual representation of the Universe sprung to life, we are charged with protecting the Universe. It is our duty is to maintain the Earth and eventually the Solar System, galaxy and even further.
