The most important rule to being successful is to fist set specific goals. Then establish a plan of successive events that (when completed) accomplish that desire goal. That plan can contain actions that you take to physically effect change (OFFENSE); and passive actions that can use to INFLUENCE change (*DEFENSE). It is unfortunate to know that the majority of people only focus of offensive actions to achieve success and disregard the defense ENTIRELY.

DON’T BE ONE DIMENSIONAL
Most people have an offensive mindset (in terms of accomplishing goals) and take physical actions to directly effect change in their life. While this is great, it is not always the most effective or efficient use of your energy. Using defense can be a great way to PASSIVELY influence change by positioning yourself appropriately in your environment. Some examples of DEFENSE are:

  • Expanding your professional and personal network
  • Receiving mentoring
  • Increase your value

All these actions are considered DEFENSIVE because they increase the probability of success. Defensive actions are necessary part of the SUCCESS equation that positions a person for opportunity. For example, increasing the people you know and your value to the market place is great; but by itself, will not accomplish your goal of being CEO. IGNORING defense ROBS you of the opportunity for meeting a future millionaire mentor or next business associate. And it is nothing short of A SHAME when you let opportunity go to the wayside.

THINK WELL. ACHIEVE MORE. LIVE BETTER.

Amen to this

I do set some short term goals first that will lead me to achieving my long term goal

That's great! Keep trying to be the best version of yourself.
