Comparisons are odius

in #philosophy8 years ago

We are all bombarded with ideas that we are supposed to live up to every day. Some of us measure our views based on what we think (I use the word here loosely) our peers are thinking. This is a trap for the mind.

You should never compare yourself or your views to anyone else as their motives are unknown. Rather try to think for yourself. Divest yourself as much as is possible with your own prejudices, values and attitudes and then try to think about the topic or subject at hand.

What do you make of this photograph below?

It is almost impossible to be completely objective as our value system is hard wired to our most fundamental state. The survival of the organism...you. Therefore the act of trying to be value free is in itself value laden.
It is a difficult road but it is your road.

Comparing yourself to someone else is like comparing an apple to an orange. They are both fruits but entirely different.

Finally in terms of happiness. Comparing yourself to others in terms of success (whatever you deem that to be) is the road to confusion, misery and depression.

Have a fabulous weekend all. Steem on!

Molometer, you are so right about people always comparing things, situations with assumptions and judgments. It would be a better world if we could just appreciate everything and everyone individually. That is why there is so much stress in this world! I loved what you wrote and hope people actually read it because it is really something to think about.......Cabbagepatch :D

By the way, I got that same reply from the photography-help bot. I used my own photo that I never used before and couldn't believe I got the same message as you did. I guess I have to say that the photo was taken by me. Oh well, that's technologyfor you. I also wrote back to the bot. :)

Chatting with a bot = hahhhhahha!!!

Don't tell you haven't lol c'mon haha.

Even the bots wont talk to me till I tip them lol.

Haha so it's not just me talking to the bots rofl

We're two peas in a pod! :D

Great advise for an #oldtimers. I have always taught my kids that success isn't measured by the car that you drive or the house you live in. Success and happiness is what you feel in your heart.

I have to agree. I see people trying to 'live up' to standards they had no input into creating and they wonder why they are unhappy?
Follow your own path is the best advice and don't try be what you are not. e.g. we are not all whales and that's fine.

So true! Always wanting to be like "The Jones's." I like..."we are not whales and that's fine."

It's the only way to keep what little sanity we have left ;)

I enjoyed reading your analogy in this post which is very true! Thanks @molometer

It's all about the velocity of money...or not as the case may be lol @pepskaram

Friendly Reminder:
1. If you shoot this photo yourself but share at other web site before post on Steemit, please remember to link back to the web site because Cheetah is very clever.
2. If you share someone else photos, please remember to link back the sources of the photos and add some value by adding your own thought or comment.

Photography Slogan: A camera that puts a world of possibilities at your fingertips. Literally.Hello @molometer. Thank you for sharing your photos.

Thanks for the advice but this is a variant of my original photo, therefore a new piece of work. Think about Andy Warhol and his soup cans.
I agree it's a good idea to link to my other web content and work. I actually forgot that the whole point is to build those links. God I'm thanking a bot now lol

LOLZ just dont buy him lunch LOL

Haha definitely no lunch for the bots.

Also don't ask about his family's well-being

Haha now that's solid advice. Thanks peeps.

Nice click.
