How can we define a good story? I guess, it is about the message, the power of transformation with te impact of this. The philosophic elements that we can find about death, god and the devil are hitting subtly in the adventure/misadventure of a humble, poor and hungry man from the mexico of the revolutionary days. We have to say that he really got immersed in the deep Mexico of those old days.
/Scene from the film "Macario" (1960) Directed by Roberto Gavaldón./
Bruno Traven, who nobody knew him really, many fake names and many messengers. His entire life is like a novel, a masterpiece, a beautifil life to be lived. But he was one person too, who fighted for justice, open-minded traveller, who absorbed all what the way had to tell him, and he wrote what he saw.
Traven is an expert in storytelling, not only one of my favourite writers but Albert Einstein's favourite too, anyway...
This story, not so short neither long (60 pages aprox.), its an amazing introduction to all his work, including "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (there is a famous film of 1948 starring Humphrey Bogart) , "The Death Ship", and many others.
"His identity is a mystery, supposed to be a german activist, a traveller who felt in love with Mexico, and decided to live in its magical culture in times of the mexican revolution . His way of writing, its an elixir for imagination, it is like watching a movie in your mind, a vivid and dreamy experience for the day-dreamers" Morel.
You know where to look for the epub, I guess Traven wouldn't care much ;)
