I have for a long time, even before losing my mom, stopped taking part in the whole mother's day, father's day, valentine's day and such. Care for the people you value all the time.
Scary to see how many people in debt themselves to follow the trends when the small, more genuine gestures are a lot more meaningful. I do the simple home made cards and a well cooked meal with some hand picked flowers as often as possible.
