Films are works of art and they have reasons for which they are acted. It is hard to say all films are acted to preach the uprightness nature of man.
Growing up, i usually go from one room to another to watch films because television was a luxury then. During this period, i was opportune to watch some interesting films. As kids, we have this demarcation of 'actor' and 'boss'. The actors are by nature the good guys and the heroes of the film while the boss are by nature the bad guys.
This idea of boss and actor is replicated in our 'Police and Thief' child play where the police are the good guys and the thieves are the bad guys.
Films have ways of sending us message (s) whether good or bad. One way or the other, we pick the character we like in a film and sometimes act it in real life.
People have done many horrible things by just watching movies. There are cases of murder, rape and serious violence which can be traced to merely watched movie.
This got me curious and i wonder why we watch these movies? Are they for leisure purposes or to learn some martial skills for self defense or to injure another human being?
I have seen people cry and very happy by watching movies. These movies some how play on our emotions that we get so attached to start crying in real life.
I still wonder what films teach when drug dealers, armed robbers and those who do illegal or illicit deals are richer while the good guys or those who believe in getting things in morally ways suffer or live in penury. In some cases, these good guy die horribly and you wonder if it truly pays to be the good guy.
One can also ask, do films depict realities or they are the realities while we replicate what we see and then make it our own realities.
Films can be blamed for some problems we face in this world. It can also be praised for some good deeds we have experienced. The question now is, does the good outweighs the bad? Should films encourage (indirectly) robbery, killing, rape, suicide, etc,.?
What is the purpose of these films? Are they purely for business? Do they help shape or destroy our ethics?
What do you think?
Thanks for tour time
Both right!!!
I would say mostly good
