Come rain or shine

There are days that luck falls one's way. The sun is shining, birds chirping, held coins increasing and posts get upvoted into higher than normal numbers. But, not every day looks like this. There are days when the clouds roll in, the birds have flown south, coins are bleeding and posts fall flat. These are the days that are the most important days. These are the days where lessons are learned painfully enough to be remembered.

The coin and post references are of course metaphorical as there are much more important concerns than money, or sunshine for that matter. The reason that these days are so vital is that it is in these moments, these hours, days, months and sometimes years that we can test our mettle, resilience and grit to continue on, often with very little feedback to drive motivation. It is not just a step into the darkness, it is setting up shop there without a match to light a torch.

It is in these times one can see what they are made of, not through a secondary mirror but through the observation of action and reaction to the transpiring events. The attention to how we move is a vital indicator as to what holds us back. It can be like taking the first jog after a long winter break, the body tells where it is tight, has become weak, and unbalanced. It is the points of discomfort that stand apart and it is these points that get the focus. When one goes to get a massage, it isn't the areas of no pain one wants worked out, it is the kinks and knots.

And in times of hardship, the knots of experience become obvious, pressure points which strike nerves and cause headaches. Areas that have gone unnoticed or neglected while times were comfortable come back to haunt as the discomfort creeps back in on another wave. The more neglect, the higher the frequency.

Many live for the good times, for today, the moments of pleasure and try to force sunshine into experience. This means that the points of weakness, the links that join sunshine to sunshine become brittle and when pressure is applied, the fragility of experience is realized.

It is good to enjoy the sun when it shines, but it is good to put a little effort into preparation for the rainy days too.

Beautiful post :)

Thank you.

Even though some of the references were metaphorical, I felt a vivid sense of the imagery and feelings as I read this. Very nice.
