Freedom: What does a real Liberal stands for?

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

Something that you have very little knowledge of or that you don't really notice in groups other than liberalism, the group that defends freedom, is really what you advocate. Within the liberal movement, there are different groups and lines of thought. One idea that could encompass all the thoughts of the liberal is freedom.

The liberal is the person who is influenced by the policies and ideological thoughts that took place between the 17th and 17th centuries. These ideas are based on the opposition to any figure of absolute power, be it the state or a religious institution. The liberal repudiates and rejects any political and social privileges granted to a person. Its aim is for the individual to develop his or her individual capacities and to exercise the freedom to the full.

Today there is a distorted view of what it means to be a liberal, it is believed that the liberal is the one who defends an economic model based on the free market, little state intervention and fewer controls and regulations are possible, which although it is true, goes much further. It is also common to believe that a liberal represents a single political system, even though the only vision one has of the liberal is that of the mercantilist, hegemonic and power abuser, something that goes against his principles.

To be liberal is not therefore to defend an economic model or to defend a political system, to be liberal implies much more, it is a system of beliefs associated with freedom. It is therefore right to refer to liberalism as an ethic. An ethic that is based solely and exclusively on the freedom of individuals to make their own decisions. It is an ethic that is based on recognizing that each subject is the owner of his or her own body and will.

A liberal who denies, imposes and hinders should not be called liberal, the modern tendency makes believe that liberalism is associated with imperialism, this because of the false propaganda policy of the media and left governments that are based on propaganda policies to indoctrinate people.

Liberalism is even accused of being a merely theoretical disquisition, that is, a utopia like that of socialism that has no room in real-world practice. However, liberals exercise a strong critique against the very characteristic self-possession of socialist systems influenced by Leninism in the personal relationships they have not only with their families, friends and parents or siblings but also with the same authority and state.

And here lies the most important principle of the liberal, from which it is vital to understand the logic and central premise of liberalism as a theory based on an ethics with more political than economic influences. It is mainly that liberalism is about limiting the exercise of force in society and above all it advocates limiting the capacity for state interference, in other words, the coercive apparatus of the monopoly of force over the lives of citizens and their individual freedoms. Let us remember that the state by definition and by empiricism is oppressive as long as the dictates that are preached by the turn governments and their different ideologies are not enforced.

The essence of liberalism lies in the morphology of the word and, as Murray Rothbard says, the essence is then that liberals defend freedom and as a consequence of the defense of freedom is that it is possible to create an economic, social and political development that liberals defend. It is not then that liberals defend political, social and economic postulates, it is that liberals defend freedom and those postulates are then an intrinsic and inherent consequence of the defense of freedom.

Freedom is then defended because it is where people can choose their means and ends, where people can best develop the pursuit not only of success, happiness, and fulfillment but the pursuit of survival subject to a maximum ideal that seeks to be violated that occurs when the state, which is a unique apparatus and designed merely to exercise control and strength, denies the capabilities of individuals to be free. Freedom then provides us with our own means to survive against any system of tyrannical oppression.

The world has been a constant and repetitive struggle over those who hold power and those who fight for freedom, only that new concepts have been transposed and those same struggles have moved to totally different planes, to planes where they could have a final result, the plane of the mind, the most powerful plane to exercise power over people.

Liberal logic is therefore opposed to any system of oppression, it fights for a collective good always from the foundations of the individual and freedom, it does not fight for a collective to be free, it fights for all the people of a collective to be free enough to take their actions.

What you have shown is that those who are calling themselves liberal, do not actually act as liberals. Those who call themselves Conservatives are actually closer to the spectrum of a Liberal as you describe. Sadly the truth more lie's in the Federalist vs the Anti-Federalist papers. One can describe this argument as the Key Stone of the problems we face today. All powerful federal government or not. One can see that the Federalist are now loosing the argument for winning.

Nice post!

The concepts are distorted nowadays. The leftists have stolen the real concept of being a liberal and what is standing for freedoms principles really mean.
