In 2010 scientists claimed they 'cracked' the age old riddle of whether the chicken or egg came first. In a paper entitled - 'Structural Control Of Crystal Nuclei By An Eggshell Protein', Researchers claim that a protein called ovocledidin-17 that is only found in a chicken's ovaries is needed to speed up the process of the shell's development.
With this protein, the calcium carbonate in the chickens is converted into calcite crystals with rapid speed, up to 8 grams of egg shell every 24 hours.
And with that discovery, scientists claim that 'this is scientific proof that the egg came first'.
But is it really the case? Did that first chicken not come from an egg? Is an egg not an egg? If you ask me, the question still remains.
