World Mammoth Week-2014 Keeping the mother's milk, the foundation of a healthy life- This slogan is being observed in the breast-feeding week this year. Breast-feeding helps prevent all types of malnutrition in the child, ensures food security for the children, and helps the nation get out of the evil cycle of poverty. The theme of this year's World Breastfeeding Week emphasizes these three issues, mainly due to child malnutrition, food security and poverty vicious cycle. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek told a press conference at the Secretariat on this day. The Ministry, Public Health, Nutrition Organization and the Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation (BBF) have taken initiatives to inaugurate and celebrate World Breast Week. Breast-feeding rates are relatively high in the world, but only 40 percent of children under six months of age are just drinking the mother's milk. 45 percent of children drink breastmilk for two years. There are varying rates of breast milk in the region and countryside. As a result of breast feeding, only 8,23,000 children and 20,000 mothers are protected from death every year.
