Tangail District is an administrative division of Dhaka Division, which is located in the central part of Dhaka Division. The population of Tangail is approximately 38 lakhs and the area is 3414.35 sq km. Tangail is the second largest district of the Dhaka division based on the population.
In earlier, Tangail was a subdivision of undivided Mymensingh district. Tangail subdivision was upgraded to the district in 1969.Tangail is situated on the banks of the Jamuna River.
