Italy - Pisa through the eyes of a tourist # 2

in #photo7 years ago

Hello everyone, and today I will continue my excursion with a brief description of Pisa, namely, we continue to walk around the Square of Wonders, where the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, which I told about in the previous post.

So, in addition to the tower in the square, there are other architectural structures,
having value. One of them is the Baptistery, which began to be built in 1153 in the Romanesque style by the Italian architect Diotsatislavi. Diotisalvi managed to build only the first floor.

After his death, the construction was continued by Niccolo Pisano, and finally the construction was completed by the son of Niccolo, Giovanni Pisano,
but already in the Gothic style.
Thus, the first floor turned out with rounded arches in the Romanesque style, since the second tier there is already gothic. From here the building is decorated with statues and busts, which are also executed by Giovanni Pisano and his disciples.

Inside,
the building is striking with its modest beauty, in the center is a font for baptism.

Nearby is the famous department, designed by Niccolò Pisano. The chair stands on seven carved columns. The top is decorated with carvings on the subjects of Holy Scripture.

The roof of the baptistery is double, inside it is made in the shape of a pyramid, and on top it is covered with a spherical dome, which gives an unusual effect of sound and the sound echoes throughout the building.

Once in this Baptistery the famous scientist Galileo Galilei was baptized.

The Baptistery is built not far from the Leaning Tower of Pisa on the same soil, therefore it has a slightly perceptible slope.

For today, everything, but continued ...
