On a trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon I took pictures on my iPhone SE, because it was all I had to try to capture the beauty and awesomeness I was seeing. It was mid day, which is the worst time to try to take photos, and all I had was my phone, so the lighting is less than optimal and I wasn’t set up to actually compose a shot like someone who is actually doing landscape photography.
I recently did a seven day black and white challenge, and I used one of the pictures I had taken on that trip. All I did was to make the original picture a black and white. I’ve been looking at both the original and the black and white trying to decide if I think the black and white version covers at all for the less than optimal conditions and makes a better picture.
Had the same picture been taken either early in the morning or late in the evening, with a tripod and an SLR camera where you can adjust the F stop, use filters and/ or use a polarizer, this could have been a very different picture. There could have been more drama, richer colors, deeper blue in the sky and who knows what else depending on the settings and lighting.

Although I love the black and white pictures, I like the colored one better in this post :) For some reason, the mix of colors here are just amazing and I couldn't take my eyes of it for few seconds.
