My brother and I sat around the corner from here, down a steep grassy slope on a cliff edge as this storm approached for the first time. A large shelf cloud could be seen whenever the sky got bright enough as it slowly edged its way towards us.
The storm was getting pretty close when the air suddenly became a lot warmer and more humid something I hadn't experienced before but understood to be inflow, I think anyway... After a few minutes the wind really kicked up but nothing like that which was to come.
We sat there as the storm approached, the wind gusting and wooshing around us when it all of a sudden stopped... still, strange we thought but great for pictures because it meant no more sea spray on my lens! Hooray but that hooray was short lived as we started to hear howling in the distance before we could think we were hammered by some of the strongest wind I've ever experienced, we hit the deck so as to not be blown of the cliff, me clutching my camera/tripod and bag, the wind continued to increase so we decided it was probably best to bail, mostly because we were pretty damn scared at this point, we gathered our things and started to make our way up the hill, the wind was so strong it literally blew us up the grassy slope, so much so that it was a challenge to stop at the top and not go off the other-side of the headland!
Running.. Hearts pumping we made our way back off the headland to a spot a little more protected, laughing all the way because we were sure we had just escaped death and if the wind had of been coming from the other direction, down the grassy slope we most certainly would have been pushed of that cliff.
And here we were worried about lightning strikes hitting us!!!
This is an amazing capture!
Wow, thanks @jasonrussell
