Hi guys, so I finally got my computer fixed after it broke and I have good news!
I finally got photos of the African spoonbill, a bird that I have been wanting to photograph for the longest time now!
I spotted him at the Rondevlei nature reserve in Cape Town, I love their odly shape bills!
I also managed to get one in flight!
Hope you liked this post, there will be many more to follow!
I am busy preparing to go to Addo Elephant park on holiday at the end of April, so there should be a lot of content coming from there!
Cheers!
Beautiful in flight pic... The beak's form is a little bit weird with this round end, do you know why ?
@tipu curate
Thanks! It is shaped that way, because they swing their head from side to side to catch small fish and other little critters, next time I see them I will make a video to show how they feed, it looks really weird.
Thanks for the info, nothing on wiki...
I could be that you may have looked up a different kind of spoonbill?
"The African spoonbill feeds in shallow water, and fishes for various fish,[2] molluscs,[2] amphibians, crustaceans,[2] insects[2] and larvae."

Hope you enjoy the read, there is not much info on that wiki page!

Nope it was the same page... But my glass of scotch had succeeded in its mission :-)

I saw a group of them once. A bit too far to catch them with my phone, but I could see how they were searching for food with those big beaks. So cool!
They are weird birds, that is why I love them!
