The vibrant Athias of Kicha. Kicha was one of my favourite dive sites in the Solomon Islands, from its vast walls with huge sea fans to its coral reefs in the shallows.
I hope you are all had a great weekend!

Awesome!
Great post!
Thanks for tasting the eden!
Thanks a lot!
I am stunned by the photo quality you have captured underwater.. I've never been diving myself, so of course I never tried to make an underwater picture lol.. but I always wonder is it dark underwater when you go deeper? And how deep is this spot ? So cool that you can capture the beauty under water.. I'd love to see more of these pictures :)
Thank you for the kind words! It really various on a few things such as weather conditions and water quality. It does begin to get darker as you go deeper but usually what makes it feel a lot darker is the visibility of the water as it blocks the sun. From memory it was roughly this shot was taken roughly 10-15 meters deep as I remember I did a safety stop just after I took this photo. I may have to post a video of a dive which was 40m+ to show how dark it is. Click the follow button and you will :)
Thanks for explaining :) Like I said I've never done something like it myself .. and I would like to do that ones in the future .. but that's diving not the taking pictures as I don't have the equipment for that lol..
10 to 15 meters wow that sounds deep already..
I will follow you for sure, and looking forward to that video :)

Thank you very much, this is my first time being upvoted by Curie! So stoked
Awesome shot! So tell me, did you choreograph the fishes to swim that way? You captured them perfectly. :D
hahaha in some ways, yes! With Athia's they're scared of bubbles so you have to creep up on them and hold your breath and they slowly rise out of the shelter of the reef. Thank you!
Ooohh interesting!
I can see why you would like it. It's beautiful down there. Just the setting alone is worth it never mind the amazing wildlife that you are surrounded by. The photo is so well taken with the colors and background that you have manged to capture.
No problem, I truly thought it was an exceptional piece.

@photocircle TeamYou really are good at what you do, the view is so fascinating and at the same time refreshing.
Diving must be a fun experience for you!!
Thanks a lot Audrey. Diving is a amazing
Oh my goodness, what a beautiful shot! Tell me (because I've never been diving and have no clue how it works!) - do you take light down with you, or is this naturally lit from above? It's absolutely stunning! E x
Thank you so much! In this shot i've used two underwater strobes (camera flashes) mounted to my camera housing
Oh wow- I did wonder. It really makes the subject "pop" - really beautiful work- thank you for sharing! E x
@cam.mcfarlane Imprecionable shot of the colorful fish posing for you. It's wonderful to be able to enjoy your beautiful picture. I'd love to see him up close in person. It must be spectacular to enjoy that experience in shallow water. Beautiful day for you too.
Thanks for the kind words! Its a great experience being in the water
Thank you for sharing one of your favorite dive sites with us.
Hello very nice photo it almost looks like it is from an other world it is beautiful.
Thank you! Luckily it isn't, so everyone can enjoy it!
:D
This is a beautiful and fantastic nature. @cam.mcfarlane
Thanks a lot!
Are those kicha's really that small of the oyster is super big?
It is amazing that you are able to capture such photo underwater with crisp. How close were you to the subject when you took this photo? Was there any zooming in or is this at an optical view?
The fish were about the same as the size of a goldfish and the coral is still fairly big.
I was shooting fisheye at about 12mm which is extremely wide, so I almost had my camera port sitting on top of the coral. No zooming or cropping on this shot
Indeed, you camera angle is very wide if it is almost on the coral and still able to capture that wide coverage. Great shot you have there!
howdy there sir cam.mcfarlane! wow this is such a stunning photo that I had to study it for awhile to make sure it was real because the color of those fish look like they're glowing! It's truly a magical picture and I hope you can enter it into a contest if there are any available.
The big question is: do you have more which are so amazing and will you be posting them?
G'day! Thanks for the kind words! I'm planning doing that very thing, haha. I sure do, follow & stay tuned!
You are damn right! This looks really like a awesome place to dive. Magical colors everywhere 👌 great photography of this wonderful place 😀
Very well deserved upvote from curie :-)
It was a great dive. Thanks a lot for the kind words!
Wow, that's an awesome shot. The see fans remind me of some fungi we have growing on trees around here. How many shots did it take to get the brilliantly colored fish to corporate? It's like they were swimming that way just for you, and the lighting was perfect too.
Thanks for the kind words! It takes a few, you need to get the strobes in the right position for the right exposure, you then need to slowly edge closer to the coral and gain the fishes trust, usually by holding your breathe (they don't like bubbles) they will begin to rise out of the coral and you start to shoot. Each flash of the strobe will bring them lower. I'll have to post more from this session
That's pretty cool. So you are working with them to get them to cooperate. lol I love it.
