Mesa Arch Milky Way Panorama

Arching over the Arch

How early do you have to arrive at the famously crowded Mesa Arch, in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, to beat the crowds? Preeeetty early. Even in the middle of a spring night our group wasn't alone, but there were few enough of us that we could take turns moving lights and headlamps around. It was fun to be here hours before the masses came and crowded around us.

Seeing @jarvie and @caseygrimley post pictures from recent nighttime adventures in the Moab area makes me nostalgic for the good times: our Stars & Cars trip three years ago was pretty epic!

This panorama was stitched from a series of 10-second exposures taken with the Nikon D750 and Rokinon 24mm f/1.4.

Your shots for long exposure is always awesome! :)

Thank you! :)

impressive panorama!
mii likes the way ze milky way and le Mesa Arch
almost have the same curvature!
did you know beforehand that the composition
will be like this before venturing to the place itself?
^o^

No! Actually I'd never been here and didn't know the area well - and we arrived in the dark, so I didn't know what to expect, but this seemed like a natural composition to make, with the Milky Way low on the horizon like that. :)

nice post.....
upvote my post pls

Amazing photo! I am going to this place next month. Perhaps I won't create that great photo but will share mine here on Steemit so you are welcome to take a look :)

Oh, cool! Get there early to secure a spot! :)

It's great how the milky way reflects the shape of the arch here. I have never taken photos of the milky way yet. Guess I should also give it a try sometime. Looks so surreal

Never! Wow! Is that your trick for being awake for sunrise: sleep? ;)

I think you'd enjoy trying it next time you have dark skies, though. It opens up a whole new world of composition. :)

Great shot, nice composition

Thank you very much!

Wow love this, love how the milky way curves like the rock!

Yeah! As I said in another reply, that was not planned. :)

Your picture reflects beautifully how surprising and diverse nature is and how rewarding it is to work for it. You have taken a great photo, as always!

Thank you as always, @akinome! :)

Awesome execution with the timing on that one. I love the double arch!

Thanks! It was nice how it worked out like that. :D

What a great picture! I’m glad you found a little more quiet time to take this photo before all the other people came.

Yes! Didn't sleep much, though. ;)

But everything for a good photo and a great time right?:-)

Yes, everything possible. :)

outstanding photo

Thank you. :)
