Valley of Fire is a State Park of Nevada,it is the oldest and largest State Park of Nevada and was dedicated in in 1935.located in the Mojave Desert about 60 miles Northeast of Las Vegas Strip. The Valley of Fire park is approximately 35,000 acres and was named for the spectacular aztec sandstone formations that were formed some 150 million years ago. When the sunlight is reflected off the red sandstone formations it gives the appearance of being on fire, hence the name Valley of Fire

Stormy morning at Rainbow Vista
If you are in the Las Vegas area I would highly recommend visiting this beautiful park, the array of different colors of the sandstone formations is truly amazing. There are hiking trails throughout the park that are well worth exploring, if you decide to do some hiking I would recommend checking in with the visitor center and getting a map and talking with them about the many different options.

The winters are mild with daytime temperatures ranging from the mid 50s to mid 70s F and overnight lows in the mid 30s to 40s F.The summers are hot with daytime temperatures ranging from 100 to 115 F. There is very little if any shade to be found, so if hiking in summer make sure you have plenty of water and are prepared for the heat. The Valley of Fire was used in movie scenes for the movies Star Trek Generations and Total Recall.
