A shot from the severe lightning storm over Prince George last week in Northern British Columbia. We had a beautiful display looking back towards it out at Ness Lake although we lost power for a couple of hours. I have a few other shots from the storm I will edit up over the next week.
I took this shot from a floating dock so I could not use my preferred long exposure timelapse techniques to capture the lightning as the dock was shaking up and down with the storm. To overcome this I shot using a very fast lens (Sigma Art 50mm f1.4) and used a 1/320 exposure time at ISO 1600. I don't have a lightning sensor other than my eyes so I just manually let off the shutter in burst mode when I saw a burst of lightning. The end result here is 3 of the 1/320 exposures blended into a single image.

Thanks for sharing..
Thanks
That is a wonderful shot.!! Will be waiting for next set of clicks from this trip.
Meanwhile, I notice so many technical terms and settings used within the article. I know a pro photographer will understand it all. I want to be the one some day. Could you please point me to a beginner level knowledge base to understand the basics?
Google is best for the basics. If you have specific questions I can answer them.
@intrepidphotos As about Northen British Columbia As this aggravation floats westbound, it might enter a zone of low breeze shear and start to build up some turn late this week Wind shear is the adjustment in wind course and increment in speed at various layers of the atmosphere.Steering winds are probably going to increment.
You caught it dancing. That left side was restless, all right.
;-)
Beautiful stuff!
Thanks. Hope your well! Steemit seems quiet at the moment
wow what a great shot! nature is insane! 😁
Thanks
It is a strong image. The storm itself is frightening.
I would really wish to experience it myself...
Thanks. Once your are used to them they are not frightening.
Surprising ... your image is beautiful, I admire your work because not everyone can do it and not everyone has the grace and love for it.
Thanks. I would love to know why you find it surprising?
The simple fact of being able to capture that moment already makes it surprising ... Do you know what I think when I see the image? How fortunate is who took it 😉 was in the right place at the right time ... Besides the colors look beautiful...
Having been there with your camera and having the speed to capture the moment must have been unique.
@juliaimrss You probably have many such "magical" situations even every day. The art is to notice them, then capture and show them in a masterly level like @intrepidphotos does.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The opportunities life brings are certainly not something I hope I will ever take for granted. There is however a bit of an art form to putting oneself into more of these situations and being ready for them when they arise to capture them. Thanks again.

i know your feeling when you take this picture this came after hard work keep its bro
Thanks
Wow you caught this with burst mode? I didn't know that was possible! I guess the duration of lightning is pretty long, though. Very cool! :)
You just need lightning reflexes ... sorry could not resit saying that.
This storm was a monster and each bolt often struck the same spot a couple of times. So it gave you a chance of capturing it.
