I am sitting in my kitchen with a can of Stone Xocoveza at hand. It's not yet open because I am in the process of contemplating what effect the cold beer may have on my almost-sore throat. Should I put it back in the fridge, or should I perhaps warm it up a bit under hot water? Damn it, I am drinking it the way it is - tsck-psshh.
It's getting increasingly difficult to tell a good beer story without being repetitive (photography-wise). Taking beer photos at home has become plain boring as I have photographed every corner of my flat, including the kitchen, the bedroom, and the balcony. You have even seen it all - even my fridge! I have to think of new places where I can photograph beer; maybe I will visit bars more often and even do a few photo shoots outside, once the spring comes. By the way, the Xocoveza is super smooth and has a fantastic caramel finish.
I took the following photos at Beer O'Clock, which is a craft beer bar in the heart of Bucharest. There was a decent selection of European brews, albeit nothing too fancy. I got myself a bottle of Thornbridge AM:PM, which turned to be not that good.
Cold beer conversation. Zaganu is a quite popular Romanian brand.
I had with me my Lumix G80 and the Lensbaby 56mm f/1.6, which is effectively a 112mm lens when mounted on a Micro 4/3 body (due to the crop factor of 2). Because of that, I could only take pictures of separate elements of the bar's interior.
By the way, I continue to be amazed by the glowing effect the Lensbaby creates when kept wide open at f/1.6 - f/2.
Roaming the streets of Bucharest. The Lensbaby is also great for street photography. And the can of Xocoveza is now empty.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Dan
Spring should be great for outside photography!
I’ll have this beer on my target list for for the following weeks. Want to try literally every single stone beer!
Maybe we can do an outdoors photo session with you and some of your beers when it gets warmer?
Sure! It sounds perfect.
Nicely done, Dude. Nice pics. I've had a few beers, and all the pictures seem focused to me. I think you have a trend. :-)) Actually, I liked it. Thanks
They are actually in focus! :) Haha
How many beers did you have?
Thank you for the kind words and for stopping by!
Glad to do it. I gotta say, I'm of the "I hope people can tell what this is!", camera phone school. My best trick is to not point it directly into the sun. Check out my RedVelvet review this week to see if I managed that. I guess we all have to start at the beginning. :-))
Haha, knowing that you should not point the camera to the sun is essential! :) I am heading now to your blog to read about the Red Velvet.
I also dig this lens baby thing! :)
I actually tried to photograph the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest with it but it didn't work that well :) I am yet to figure out why. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
Stop wagging your big ol’ lens baby in my face, Dan! 😖
Maybe you can employ that lens to revamp your beertography around your flat. It really does have some fun tricks.
The first photo is my fav here. It captures a very human moment without being cheesy, if that makes sense. That is one of my ultimate goals when I shoot people.
Side note: I had bourbon last night. For the first time in ages. If it wasn’t so frekin’ expensive, I might start a bourbon review thread...and an impressive addiction. Mmmmmmmmm...bourbon.
Candid photography? Having a longer lens in this particular situation was great because I was able to take several shots of these guys without being noticed. Beer photography with the Lensbaby is super challenging, if they are to be any body parts in the pictures, due to the focal length and the lack of autofocus :)
What bourbon did you drink?
Candid, yes. I didn’t realize these weren’t your friends. That does explain why it’s not cheesy. 😄
Here’s a pretty crap photo of the bourbon. It’s not top shelf but it’s quite smooth and full bodied. Don’t let the impressive dent in the bottle fool you. I had less than a shot mixed with ginger ale. Frankly it’s a mild miracle that there’s any left with my husband around. 😬
Haha 😁 As far as I can remember, Bulleit Bourbon is not bad at all! By the way, aren't you destroying the flavor by mixing it with ginger?
One could argue that I’m destroying the flavor of the ginger. 😬
The mere thought that I’d ever drink straight bourbon is hilarious. Seriously, there are chortles and snorts across the globe right now from everyone who’s ever known me.
Let’s hear it for Dan, ladies and gentlemen...he’ll be here all week!😂😉
That looks like a fun lens to play around with, as long as sharpness isn't your goal! It is a cool effect, though! I really like that second shot.
More demon-beer, eh?
It is a lot of fun, and I think I am beyond the "crazy about sharpness" phase :)
I even had a third demon beer that night :P What did you have?
Sometimes sharpness isn't necessary or even a good thing. It really depends on the photo, though. I like my landscapes sharp enough to part silk! There is a guy who adapted an old bellows camera lens and Frankensteined a digital back onto the thing for videos. I can't remember what the YouTube video was called, but it was amazing.
Well, last night, I made myself a hot buttered rum. It's cold out! I did try a new beer a couple weeks ago, though! My parents gave me a six-pack for watching the pooch for the weekend.
That buttered rum is exactly what I need today! We have a big snow storm, and the temperatures are well below 0. As for the 6-packs, they always make for a great gift :P
I like these photos Dan. The first one is very commercial and there is something cozy about having the bottles a bit blurred. The two guys talking at Beer O'Clock (great name for a pub) adds to the ambience.
I also enjoy the ghosty blurry street photography.
Nicely done, very nicely done. :)
Thank you Deb, I am happy that you like them :) If you zoom-in, you will actually see that the bottles are in focus :) I think it's the glowing that creates this dreamy out-of-focus atmosphere:![](https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmdehxguUDuSe8Jyh8VvKYHuAAsrBTzSDRwR9o5KXyEKir/image.png)
You're right.....I zoomed in and saw they are in focus - the lighting seems to be bouncing off them to give it that blur....I like it, regardless. I learned something new, yet again :)
I would think the ice cold beer, could sooth your throat!!
Haha, sometimes it does sooth it, sometimes it doesn't 😁
Nicely presented with the photos! Makes me thirsty for beer right away! :)
Haha, that's great! I am yet to keem my promise to do a beer&food post :) Thanks, man! Как я карате с Мариета? :)
Yep, you should have something to munch on with the beer next time, it's a revered Bulgarian tradition :P
Добре сме, чакахме пролет, пък то пак захвана зима :)
Хаха! Да се надяваме, че това е последният напън на зимата :)
Да, дано! :)
Start going deeper into the depths of Beer fiction?
This is the dilemma of always needing to produce new content. But it’s good, it invites experimentation.
Beer fiction! Dude, I am going to give that deep consideration 😊 Thanks!
Tell me when you do!
Nice blurred shots! Congratulations...
Thank you, @chorock!
WOW. nice lens. I love these bokeh :)
Congratulations, a great share!
Thank you, Ceren, I am happy that you like it! The dreamy mood and effects that it creates are spectacular :)
