Intro
In my very first post on Steemit, I posted a photo of Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park that I took when I was scouting for a location to practice my astrophotography skills. I promised that I'd share a few of those photos with you in the near future. Seeing that it's been 13 days since I joined Steemit and made that promise to you, I figured I had better follow through. After finding out that today is also the last day to enter @juliank's weekly #longexposurephotography contest, I decided now would be the best time as ever to share these.
Photo Details
Like I said above, I took these photos at Two Jack Lake on the last day of July, up in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. I used my recently acquired Canon 6D, and a not so common combination of lenses. For the wide angle shots I used a Canon 17-40L, and for the longer shots, the Canon 50 1.8 STM. I'd love to own the 16-35L 2.8 ii, but just haven't spent the money on it yet. I was surprised by the quality that this camera/lens combination gave me for these photos. Drop a comment below if you have more specific questions about these exposures.
First Two Weeks on Steemit!
If you haven't read some of my earlier posts and know this already, I'll fill you in. I decided to start posting on Steemit because I thought it had some potential to help me earn a little extra for my photography. However, I didn't want to have big dreams or aspirations and have them die out because I didn't show the amount of dedication needed to reach them. So, I set an initial goal for myself and have committed to posting at least 30 quality posts in my first 30 days on Steemit. This is the 13th day since joining, and this is my 16th post. So far I've made a 194 comments, followed 55 people, and acquired 70 followers. I've also been able to increase my reputation score from 25 to 47 in just 13 days. My highest rewarded post has made currently just under $53. All in all my expectations have been exceeded, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to the next 17 days! I'm planning to post a 30 day summary once I get there! If you have a story about your Steemit experience I'd love to hear about it below. If you have any tips for growing your account, I'd be eager to hear them.
That's supercool, I should spend a night in the wild, so I could make such shots too. Cheers @justinmullet!
Google Dark Sky Map and find a dark area near you. It's a very powerful experience to stand under the stars!
Didn't know that was a thing. Thanks a lot for the great advice, mate!
Absolutely! If you can't find the link, leave a comment and I'll link it once I'm on my computer.
There appear to be multiple sites. I'm sure any one is useful, but feel free to suggest your favorite as well
I use this one http://darksitefinder.com/maps/world.html, and thankfully where I live I have quite a few dark blue to dark gray areas.

Awesome shots dude! Turned out really well. Resteemed!
Thanks a bunch! I was pretty happy with them. The stars were so bright you could see the horizons all around us.
Epic shots bro! Makes me even more inspired to finally get out to Banff this year, gotta hike to see Moraine Lake too. Looking forward to seeing more of these photos man, just followed.
I'd love to get to Banff again this summer! It's such an epic place. Thanks for the comment!

Great shot, and welcome to steemit! Now following
Thank you! I've really enjoyed my first two weeks!
That first one is absolutely insane! Message me on instagram chaseburnett_ I want to talk about summer plans!
Thanks! I will do that!
Great images @justinmullet! I think I see the North American Nebula in picture number 3.
Nice! I'll have to research that, not familiar with the names many constellations and nebulae.
You can see the North American Nebula (upside down) in this crop from your photo number 3.
Very cool! So many things to learn from the community here on Steemit!
Impresionant!
Thank you!
Great shots of the galaxy. What is the average shutter time you use to aquire such photo(s).
The wide angle shots were taken with a 30 second exposure, and the 50mm shots were taken at about 20 seconds
Thanks for the reply. Thats not too long, I would have guessed longer. Will you get (star)trails if you would extend the shutter time more?
Hey welcome to Steemit! Looking at your pictures and reading your posts you definite earn your place and success here. :) keep up the good work!
Thanks!!
Amazing work. Found you through @terrylovejoy and I am a sucker for space pictures in general. Yours are some of the best and I know that the camera also helps as I am a newbie owning both an Nikon D40 and a 650D Canon.
As for your two weeks on Steemit you have amazing article coherence and you seem to have gotten the basics right. Don't forget to research the tags you are posting into before and after for relating and engaging the community. Also don't forget to use the www.steemreports.com and other organic growth tools. Maybe read my article about my first 500 followers, it's 3-4 articles back.
Have fun and enjoy the ride!
Oh and #photomatic was made by my friends :D
Hey thanks for the comment! I'll look up steemreports, have not heard of that before. Lots to learn here, thanks for the info.
