Imaginative Photography #43 Times Square

in #photofeed7 years ago (edited)

This is my favorite picture of Times Square in New York City. I had flown into New York just to take pictures at night. I had hired a town car to take me all over Manhattan and in some ways to be a security guard if I needed one. Turns out that I didn't.

My driver picked me up in Times Square at 6:pm and we drove down to the very southern part of Manhattan where I could take some pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge. So, we started there and worked our way north, stopping at any place that had interesting lights or buildings. By about 4:am we made it to Times Square. It was late November so it was getting cold! I had just flown in from Florida, so this was crazy cold for me, and it was getting windy!

I walked around Times Square and I was struck by the fact that there was barely a soul to be seen. I had never been in Times Square when there weren't thousands of people. It was a strange feeling, like the world had ended or something. If it weren't for the trash trucks collecting the mounds of trash generated by the throngs of people the day before, I might have really thought the world had ended.

I started taking pictures, but I was getting very cold and I wanted a great shot that would be different from every other picture you see from Times Square. I saw a police car parked on the side of the street. So, here is what I came up with. I made it black and white and cropped it, to give it a different feel. What do you think? This picture looks amazing when it is blown up big!

You can see the streams of lights going by that were cars. But, you can't see any people. The next picture is a slightly different shot and I didn't crop it into a long skinny picture. Which one do you like the best?

I am an award winning photographer and filmmaker. Many of my pictures have been used in TV Shows and Feature Films, such as "Zero Dark Thirty", "NCIS Los Angeles", "Scandal", "Blackish" and "The Walking Dead".

All my pictures are from one capture and nothing is computer generated, except where noted. Then it is only an inversion or an increase in saturation only, not a change to the actual content of the picture.

I hope you find my pictures unusual, creative and in some cases inspiring. Everyone sees something different in my pictures. Enjoy!

I like them both but the scale of NYC for me is the second one. I walked thro Times Square many years ago on my first visit to NYC and it is unrecognisable today!!

Interesting memories of NYC. My worst memories of NYC was being there after a big snowstorm with all the black snow in the road - reminding me of a bad black and white movie. Seeing Miles Davis in a little jazz house was best memory.

Thanks
