During our road trip along the west coast of the US back in 2013, we stopped in Portland for two days. For years I had seen the photos of the Columbia River Gorge, now I wanted to explore some of the waterfalls myself.
There's so many waterfalls in the gorge that it's hard to pick just a few. I could have easily stayed a week and it wouldn't have gotten boring.
One of the waterfalls we visited was Wahclella Falls. As we arrived around noon the sun broke through the clouds and at first I was a bit disappointed. Because harsh light usually doesn't work well with waterfalls.
But as we approached the falls I saw that for Wahclella Falls this light was perfect. The rays of the sun lit up the mist created by the mighty cascade and created this magical scene. I climbed onto a huge rock in midst of the river, which gave me the best view of the falls.

Beautiful . I know that feeling of bright uneven light at waterfalls. It normally makes it impossible to shoot. But on some occasions like this it works like magic. Lovely shot and beautiful location. I have only been in the gorge once briefly.
Yea, I find especially the larger falls that produce a lot of spray can be a great subject on a sunny day. Sometimes even for detailed shots with a telephoto.

Thanks. It's quite popular and easy to reach. but with all the waterfalls in the gorge, it's hard to remember all of them. I just visited 7 in the two days I had ;-)

That was a black hole I didn't know was there... I've been moving things around recently - a hard-drive which hadn't been touched in two years was installed in my new machine, though we were worried about some of the noises it was making, so I copied all my photos off... 2014 was a mess! I hadn't organized them at all and often, my camera at the time would reset the time stamps when the battery was out/low too long, so there are pictures I won't be able to remember which date it was taken, though I can guess at the month. Anyway, long story short, they are all reorganized now. Thanks for making me do it today! Result, some nice pictures for today and weeks into the future before I have to start over. Take care!
