A couple of years ago I went through a rather intense period of bokeh madness. Now I’m relatively certain this is a fever every photographer catches on the creative journey of self discovery. And while I’ve curbed my habit quite a bit, I still have bursts and binges.
Bokeh is the Japanese Word for the blur created through a camera lens in the parts of the image which are not in focus. It’s a dance of beams of light, bouncing poetically off the curve of the glass.
We are all seduced by the bubbly bits of colored light floating magically about our photos.
And the beautiful way the background of an image can melt into an abstract canvas, bringing the subject into sharp focus against a surreal setting.
Whether subtle or extreme, bokeh is possibly the most addictive guilty pleasure of the photographer.
To be continued...
Bokehlicious shots, Lisa :) Melted backgrounds (like the one in your last picture) are extremely beautiful.
Thanks, Dan! I’m feeling the fever returning a little...methinks. 😬
More! More! More!
You’re wish is my command...
Of course we’re always warned to be careful what we wish for. 😄
I just saw part 2 and I'm not unhappy with my wish
I adore the first photograph! The reflection there - gorgeous! It took me somehow back in time. Can't wait the second part :)
Thanks, Aga. I love that one, too. It’s been a very successful image for me.
