Norway'24 #16 - Storm over Lofoten, Nusfjord Village

in #photofeed3 months ago (edited)

Hi Friends!

Our second day on Lofoten Islands began really bad - extreme wind and heavy, passing rain showers immobilize us at the base.

Whole morning until late afternoon the weather was so extreme that it was impossible and dangerous to go somewhere out.

Luckily the storm got weaker and let us out somewhere around 4PM.

Even a short glimpses of sunlight appeared giving us the hope and energy for exploration!

On the way to Nusfjord, small fishing village, we are passing by the beautiful mountains, lakes and waterfalls, but the weather was still unpleasant and the light horrible for photography...

We decided to explore the village despite the rain and wind. It was the only place during that day we were able to explore and we were determined to do it :)

Nusfjord itself is a typical fishing village where the sea harbor is located in the main center of the town.
Red fishing houses are called Robuer- small and wooden, are placed just by the water edge on a wooden platforms. They were used by fisherman's mostly. Now most of them are available to rent for turists.

Bigger yellow buildings were used to store the boats, equipment and to process and store the fish delivered by boats every day. Now - used as a museums and exhibitions, some of them still used as a storage buildings and magazines.

There are also several big, white houses located in the center of the village, in more safe and calm area on the hills - these were the living houses of the most rich and important people in the village - the owners of fishing companies, local politics and businessmen.

You can see on this example the whole structure of the village, which is common in the far North, were the main income and work for people was the sea fishing.

We had luck to explore the area of the village without the rain. it was the only hour without it and I think we used it pretty well.

The place looked amazing during such dark and stromy conditions.
Made this mood of northern village, hard weather conditions, ectreme nature around...

I think it was much easier to imagine the real life and struggle of the people who lived here in the past, fighting with the raging weather, big waves, strong winds, cold and wet air...

Nusfjord is definitely one of my favorite spots to visit on Lofoten Islands - not only because it is an example of typical northern fishing village but also because of its location - surrounded by high mountains, placed by the narrow, deep and dark fjord...

A 'Must visit place' during exploration of Lofoten Islands!

After visiting the village we decided to go somewhere out of the rural area, we went towards the mountains to see some of the nature nearby but the path was totally flooded and very quickly we had to head back towards our car.

Because of the rain which catched us there, we decided to go back to our cabin and call it a day.

Quite succesful trip but it was the only one we took that day.

Later at night the sky cleared out and something around midnight I spotted the green lights over the mountains - but this I will show You in the next gallery :)

STAY TUNED! CHEERS!
