Norway'24 #8 - Sognefjell Road (Sognefjellsvegen)

in #photofeedlast month

Hi There!

Continuing our roadtrip to the North... after short visit by the Lom Stave Church,
(previous post: https://peakd.com/photofeed/@photovisions/norway24-7-lom-stavkirke )
we headed towards the highest mountain road in Northern Europe called Sognefjellsvegen (road number 55).

Weather conditions were bad - very cold and wet with passing rain showers and strong wind. Most of the landscapes around we watched only from the car's windows but in the most spectacular places we stopped for a while to take some shots...

Road was going up really steep and the landscape was changing from dense forests and large valleys to raw, rocky terrain with flowing rivers and waterfalls.

Here is a panoramic shot from one of such places:

On the highest point we were almost touching the low clouds. The landscape in the distance was hidden before our eyes unfortunatelly...

This part of the road is going among the moon-like open, vast landscape - the highest point on the road has 1434 m.

Our bad luck that the weather wasn't just a bit better to stay there longer - the views around was amazing... the views which we didn't really saw ;).

Going further we left Jotunheimen National Park and entered area of Breheimen National Park.

From one of such viewpoints I was trying to capture the whole scene before my eyes using the wide lens and panoramic photo technique.

The whole image in original is huge, Misty, dark mountains hidden in low clouds above huge valley with meandring river and small settlements. It was amazing in real life.

On the shot You can see the atmospheric weather and many mountain creeks with waterfalls. This kind of landscapes looks empty at first but in fact are full of small details :).

Last shot from this part of the road shows a dancing clouds in the lower parts of the mountain. We had to stop by the road and wait a bit as our brakes got really hot during the way down to the level of Sognefjorden...

Amazing road, but going there we must remember that it is seasonal. During the wintertime is closed and covered by thich layer of snow.
Available to pass from May to November.
