Since 2 weeks I do have the pleasure to sail in the region of Cape Verde.
Located on the west coast of Africa, the Cape Verdians are 2 chains of islands that do offer a lot of nature but lack tourism. Sao Nicolau is of these islands and I was able to hike a mind bending path of pure nature.
One of my guests from aboard the sailing vessel I am working on is looking at the path we just went down.
One of the panoramas I took. 100 MB file size, 25 photos and a glorious view over the mountain range. This view was breathtaking.
Small houses are dotted around the landscape. They do have electricity but for the rest we doubt they have a lot of luxury. As it appears, the people living there life from the land they are living on, farming and growing a couple of animals.
In photography there is a technique called "Natural Framing"... As you see, this can work quite nicely looking down on the houses below.
Our guide on this hike. A great and proud Sao Nicolaurian. He really know what he was talking about. For example he told us that in 2021 there were on 12000 tourists on the island. He explained with great patience what plants are growing here and there, for what they are used to and guided us perfectly though this rough landscape :) Big thumps up from me!
Landscape photos are nice, sometimes adding a sprinkle of color + perspective and a subject just makes them more interesting.
We climbed up and down, down and up for quite some time. This is another valley that we came from. It looks quite far away and it is. Luckily the sun was not burning like usually :)
Another 100MB photo stitched together out of 20 or so photos. I still find it amazing what we can do nowadays with a laptop, a camera, some patience and a bit of time. You see the way down and up again to the next mountain range? Yes we walked all that.
This photo is something specially for me. The mood, the pose and what you don't know jet is: a few minutes later our guide run of because his mother died. :( Even in this remote area of the world there is cell coverage, so this news made him rum - very understandable. The crew and the guests collected quite some money for him to this bad time a bit better for him. Yeah, money does not bring his mother back but it really can help him to get everything in order. People in Sao Nicolau are really poor and this maybe makes the difference.
Thanks for checking out this post.
