Sandhill Crane

These birds are true nomads. Every spring thousands of sandhill cranes migrate to Alaska to nest, travelling as far as 350 miles a day. They like to nest in marshes and other wetland areas. Although they tend to be shy creatures, they are a common sight in Homer, and this one allowed me to approach within a few yards of it.
