Zealandia is a wildlife sanctuary in Wellington for many native New Zealand birds, including the Kaka, the endangered Saddleback, and over one hundred Kiwi. Unfortunately, Kiwi's are nocturnal, so we didn't get a chance to see one. :/ Zealandia's mission is to preserve New Zealand's native species by preventing mammals that were introduced by European settlers from harming the ecosystem. Prior to this, the only native mammal in New Zealand was a small bat species.
What Zealandia has been able to achieve over the past 18 years is impressive and very comforting.
Very nice birds, especially Pied Shag!

Wow the Takahe is amazing, I love wildlife and am surprised I havent seen this bird before, thank you for sharing!
It really is! I honestly thought it was extinct when I saw it in a Museum.
Yes !! I did, when I saw it it looks like a bird from dinosaur times!
Beautiful shots the images of the 2 Kaka's is my favorite the way the branch and birds pop off the background with the bokeh is rich and creamy. The shot with the wing spread is an amazing crisp composition the bird looks to have just posed perfectly for you as he jumped backwards.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
