"The Estonian National Museum (Estonian: Eesti rahva muuseum) founded 1909 in Tartu is a museum devoted to folklorist Jakob Hurt's heritage, to Estonian ethnography and folk art. The first items for the museum were originally collected in the latter part of the 19th century.
The museum tracks the history, life and traditions of the Estonian people, presents the culture and history of other Finno-Ugric peoples, and the minorities in Estonia. It has a comprehensive display of traditional Estonian national costumes form all regions. A collection of wood carved beer tankards illustrates the traditional peasant fests and holidays. The exhibition includes an array of other handicrafts from hand-woven carpets to linen tablecloths." [wiki]
Let's head inside, where we are greated by mr. Hurt.
hurt, hurt, hurt, "I've got hurt feelings!" - Fotc fans will get it :P
He was also depicted at our 10 Crown bills, before the we adopted the Euro.
Picture Gallery
There were exhibits from all Estonia's eras. Even the 90's.
First ATM:
An old lawn mover:
Might have been the first color TV here:
Shoes:
Food:
Toy car/crane:
Medallions:
And the list goes on...
Warning: NSFW!!!
There was also a photo section with small holes in the wall where you could take a peek at some old photos.
Tapestry exhibition
This was a random exhibition held in the same building.
and... done.
A "fire" show
There were some performers that night too. Big promises of fire, but I guess it's not that safe inside with a lot of people. We got a neon dance show instead.
and that was it, time to go...
Thanks again Jakob!
