The ones at night you would just use a bulb setting which leaves the lens open, but in the daytime much trickier! Either you get lucky and press the button as it happens or.. Unless you have a lightning trigger which we did.. That makes it a lot easier, it's device you can buy that has a sensor that takes the picture when the lightning strikes. They still sell these for newer digital cameras as well as it's still a useful tool even with the newer cameras. :) Hope that helps you understand the process more!
