Another Type of Desert in Egypt
Deserts come in all types in Egypt. There are the smooth sandy slopes reminiscent of the Sahara, though these are generally away from the towns and cities. Mostly the deserts could be considered rocky land with mountains and sparse vegetation.
Moving down the Gulf of Suez, the mountains of the Eastern Desert get further away and you move onto land that looks as if it was under water in the past. Long stretches of rough stony sand.
In this photo you can just make out two oil tankers on the desert road heading back from their oil well pickup.
Further South from this area there is a section that does get flooded by seawater every year and it dries into a multi-coloured carpet of sand best seen from the air.
Very informative! Thank you!
