TL;DR The sediment on the sea floor, when it all finally met with air, hardened into rock (sandstone) and then was eroded. Humans are made up of mostly water.
Around 300 million years ago much of the southwest was covered in various inland seas, during that time, as various geological processes took place and the earth emerged from an ice age or two, the seas evaporated and refilled something like 29 or 30 times in this area.
To make a long story short, after the rock hardened, geological processes, namely, water, carved out the softer parts of the sandstone and created slot canyons. These, slot canyons.
If you look closely at each image you'll see the flow of water, the textures in the rock show you literally every little ripple as it rushed through these passages over and over for thousands upon thousands of years. You can even see the little eddies, the little areas where the water would catch and swirl around and around before eventually continuing its path of least resistance.
Now we can wander through these magical and ancient places and marvel at the beauty that natural processes bring with time. Can you imagine working on an art piece for hundreds of millions of years? I'm very grateful to the tribes near Page, AZ for being the stewards of Antelope Canyon, it's popularity would surely have been enough for us to leave our own contribution as an instrument of time. I mean, we are made up of something like 60% water after all.
