First a snail... a tiny one, but... a snail
And then birds!
Not kidding!
At first, I heard lots of twittering, lots of flying in and out...
This is just outside of my kitchen, a small space we call the utility area, where a horizontal water pipe offers about a foot or less space... and they decided that was home
Who was I to deny them?
Short of welcoming them with open arms...
Btw, a bit of checking online showed that these are... wait for it....
Welcome Swallows!
But this gives me an opportunity to test out my 50mm lens
These are very shy birds... so I was sneaking up on them for these shots
When they knew I was around, they'll sit just outside on a nearby window ledge
Well, they were building a nest!
Looks like I was gonna have baby birdies... yayyyyyyyy!
After about a week or two of observing the traffic and security of the chosen place, the building started...
When I took that shot, the nest was still being completed
Nest building seems to be complete now
They are small birds, about 5-6 inches,
so you can see how small that space is...
And protected... and high... and awkward it was to stretch my arms up and catch a shot without scaring mum or dad off!
Ohhhh, there were many others, that didn't come out too well
And I didn't want to scare them off either!
One is a bit more shy, and refuses to come to the nest when I am there
This one doesn't mind me as much
Am wondering if the eggs are laid... or will be soon...
I'm inviting you to post your next birds in the Feathered Friends community created by @melinda010100, if you want my dear !
We would be delighted to know the story of this becoming-family 😊
How could I forget... I haven't posted there before as I actually haven't taken any bird shots
Great idea... will post follow-up stories of the birdies there! :)
Thank you, my friend!!
All feathered friends will be delighted my lovely friend ! 👌 ❤️
Wow! That’s a nice nest! They have good eyes and great skill!
Yeah... I always wonder at their self-taught skills... :)
Good eyes, yes! Lol, I tried hiding but they always know if I'm around...
Thank you, pix! :)
So Sweeeet! :-D
🥰
Cute ones. It's been such a long time since I haven't seen a birds nest in real life. I guess they don't get too comfortable to build them around here. Your photos are great though. Don't stop having the two ones as subjects for future posts.
Awwwww, thank you very much, @acesontop! :)
I feel conflicted... on one hand, I want to try getting more and better shots, but on the other hand, don't want to disturb or scare them away...
You are the photographer because you are taking pictures :) Nice shots :)
Hahaha, thank you! :) Only because I hold the camera... :)
You not just hold the camera, you are taking shots. So that's what photographer is. isn't it? :)
You are going to be hearing a lot of chipping and singing going on soon they know you going to love them...lol ❤️
Am looking forward to that! 😄 I wonder if I'll get to see them practise their flying... 😉🥰
Make sure you put a safety net down for them it wouldn't be a soft landing if they mis-judged 🙀

Lovely shots, where I live in the UK we get lots of swallows and swifts building their nests the same way, we make sure there is a water supply near by as they need this to soften up the dirt to build their nests. Stay safe!
Thank you!
Ahaaa... these are lucky then as there's a lake nearby... Plus we've been having rain almost everyday! :)
You keep safe too!
Thanks I will, keep us updated on the chicks progress:)
Very cute little birds @ackhoo I discovered them here in Brisbane a couple of years ago and they are hard to capture as they are so energetic.
Great work. It isn't easy to get close and take good pictures from bird's private life.
