They call them Bird-of-Paradise... or crane flower, if you don't look carefully, you might mistake one in the bush for a bird peeping at you!
These seem to be a cousin of the brighter, more colourful plumaged ones with blue and purplish petals ~ these I found are just yellow and orange, but they must be really sweet, as there were ants on most of the blooms I came across!

Discoloured, brown and drying... and fading away
It also has these fruit-like growths from within the flowers
Interesting... no?
Also being visited by more ants!

Here in Australia and the islands where they originated from they're known as Heliconias. There's 100's of varieties and colours and 2 main types... the first and third photos are psittacorum types . While the the spent flower is an old long, pendulous bract, these can also face upwards and are known as claws. They're closely related to the banana.
