There is something immensely pleasing about neatness and order, even for people who are not themselves well-organized. If you are among those who get a kick out of neatly arranged images, this new series by Munich-based German photographer Bernhard Lang would make you very happy.
During the summer of 2017, Lang went to the coastal area around the city of Viareggio in northern Tuscany, Italy, which is known as “Versilia turistica.” During his trip, he flew above the beaches in a helicopter and captured a collection of stunning aerial shots that will delight the symmetry-loving fans of Wes Anderson.
The ‘Versilia’ photos show the beaches dotted with colourful beach umbrellas and sunshades. What makes them striking is the precise manner in which these structures are arranged—in many instances, they are organized along footpaths that lead to the water, creating a very satisfying symmetry that is made clear when viewed from above.
Another element that makes these images so compelling is the many bright hues that are present in every one of them—the umbrellas painted with circular motifs to resemble targets are especially eye-catching.
