On the North Yorkshire Coast, above the old whaling town of Whitby stands the ruins of Whitby Abbey. The Abbey is mentioned in the great gothic horror story of Dracula as the harbour where the ship bearing the vampire prince came into England.
This view is probably one of the more famous ones , taken from beyond the pond, with hindsight I should have moved further to the right to get the reflection of the Abbey in the pond.
This is the view of the Abbey from the opposite side and I think gives more of a clue to the sheer size of the building and how commanding it must have looked to anyone approaching the town of Whitby by ship almost 500 years ago when it was destroyed in 1540 by Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
