Photography tips
Below are a few photography tips one can follow
Throughout the lessons we will come back to these tips where it will be explained in detail, so don’t worry if you don’t understand these tips now.
- Know your camera (Practice makes perfect)
- Shutter speed and aperture – be creative and play around with options on the camera. Remember that the relationship between shutter speed and aperture is very important
- Remember to “pan” (Flip the camera horizontal when taking a photo, in other words, the camera must follow the object you are taking a picture of)
- UV filters protects the lens – use polarized filters for landscapes, it also takes away the reflection of water for example.
- Camera shake – always be aware of this. If you move the camera or shake the camera a lot when taking a picture, the quality of the photo won’t be that good.
- Wait for something exiting to happen, don’t just take the same photo over and over. Wait for that perfect moment.
- A good photo has impact, atmosphere, action and good light
- Plan thoroughly before going out to take photos
- Look for the best angle to take a picture, test every lens you own and the filters etc. for the best possible photo
- Investigate the fore- and background when taking a picture; make sure there is nothing in the way of making it a good picture
- Make sure about the relationship of elements in your photos.
- People, flowers or “still” images must never be taken into direct sun, except early in the morning or later in the evening.

- Remember your resources like, reflectors, selective focus with wide lens openings, filters and combinations of it.
- At places where it is beautiful for you, remember to take more than the usual number of photos, but change the shutter speed a few times or play with your camera settings to see the difference it makes in every image.
- When your camera is set on a longer shutter speed, remember to put it on a tripod to prevent shaking of the image, otherwise use a faster shutter speed.
- Use the mirror lock-up or self-timer and a tripod to take fantastic “sharp” photos.

- Take filters off when taking photos inside the house, you can put it back once you need it again.
- Never walk pass a beautiful photo and think that you will get a similar one later, if you see something nice to take a photo of, TAKE IT!
- Try to keep the sun and reflecting objects away from your camera lens
- With macro photography, you as the photographer, have to go closer to take a photo. Remember that the macro lens is not a zoom lens.
- Stay away from photos where there are too many things in the foreground, this will take the focus off from what you are actually trying to capture
- Remember the rule of thirds – we will go through this lesson in detail during another lesson
