More bird photography + my thoughts on fabulous birds

Bird photography is shit somewhat challenging and in my case, unlucky.
I will rant about it in the end of the post. Before it, enjoy the random bird photos from the weekend.

A merganser and her chicks. I'm assuming this is a common merganser, even though my wifes brother said it might be a red-breasted merganser.

A white wagtail landing on a bush. The first photo confuses me. Shutter speed at 1/2000 as flying birds are difficult for photography.

Terns fishing. You can see a fish in the mouth of the tern on the right.

A seagull on the shit stone. There were two of them, but first one got scared when we approached in the boat.

The mother-seagull brooding and the seagull watching in the distance. We got pretty close and the "brave guard" was only looking away.
Not sure if he wanted us to eat his wife and "accidentally" looked away.

Now the short rant I promised.

Why the hell all the best opportunities arise when I do not have the camera? Every single time.

I leave the camera to the cottage.

A big fucking swan flies so close to me I could almost touch it. And no camera.

I leave the camera to the cottage.

A seagull flies close to us, hovering in the air above us for 10 minutes. And no camera.
Then the seagull flies away and returns after a minute. Again, 5 minutes of hovering. Perfect bird photography poses. Still no camera.

I leave the camera to the cottage.

Four seagulls fight in the sea, flying up in the air and plunging back down, screeching and screaming. Water is splashing. No camera. No fucking camera.

But when I have the camera, what do I get?

Small birds.
A seagull sitting in the distance.
A swan so far away I can't get a proper photo of it.
Few terns quickly flying past me.
A seagull flying so high in the sky that it's almost impossible to know what bird it is.

Everything happening in the distance.

Birds flying/swimming away with super fast speed.

I'm using a lot of time just to get a small glimpse of anything.

When I don't take the camera with me, anything can happen. All the birds come super close to me. They stay still. They fight.

Fucking birds.

Sort:

Ha! That's why you always bring the camera! Many birds actually seem to see the lens and get spooked, which might be part of it. You could always try hiding in the bushes in full cammo, with one of those huge telephoto lenses... Just don't do that near a playground!

Fucking cottage!

Sadly, no fucking happened in the cottage during the weekend.
