Tuomiojärvi is a beautiful lake in Jyväskylä, Finland. I took a walk by the shore in June. Here are some photos from the journey.
A view at Lehtisaari island from Eerolanlahti bay.
The shores of lake Tuomiojärvi are covered with snake grass (Equisetum). The plant is called "Korte" in finnish.
So it's not a surprise that a residential area on the west lakeshore is called "Kortepohja", meaning "Snake grass bed".
Equisetum is a quite strange plant species as it reproduces by spores and not by seeds. It is a "living fossil", meaning that closely related species have been found as fossils.
All photos are my own work and are released to public domain.
