A short trip down the road lead us to a typical southern scene in the winter.
January in the South may not be what one might expect. The scenery can be quite drab but it doesn't deter the activity of nature's beasts. Despite being in the deep South, it was also unseasonably cold with a biting wind that cut right through relatively thin clothing, but my wife and I braved the fierce elements and took to the inland waters to capture some of the local viewing flavor.
OK, we didn't actually get out on the water, but we did walk near it. This is what we saw...
This was the view as we approached from our car. It's not impressively colorful, but I suppose there could be less picturesque places in the world.
Our shot to the left, up the small creek.
A couple of birds were basking in the sunlight, just trying to stay warm. They didn't fly far enough south, unfortunately.
The tide was low but our body warmth was still high. That quickly changed.
Mmm...dinner!
Doesn't that look scrumptious? If I were a fish or bird, I'm sure seeing this would get me very excited and make me drool.
Speaking of birds, these guys were everywhere. Unfortunately, the lens I was using was being stretched to its maximum capacity for shooting this stuff at a distance, so the photos weren't as crisp as I had hoped. (I promise to upgrade my zoom lens when the STEEM price hits $10! For the good of the community!)
I tried to catch the creatures in flight. The results were decent, but I think I can do better.
I'm pretty sure this guy was drunk.
It's a bird!
It's a plane!
It's su...
Oh...wait...nope. I think it's a weather balloon.
After waiting a long time for a bird to fly closer to us, we were finally graced with this quail's presence...or whatever it is. I don't know birds. I'm not even sure if it is a bird.
Still not the best photos, but not too bad.
I saved the best for last! This magnificent creature - the best of all the swamp things - stood still just long enough for me to capture a quick image! I'm not sure of the name, but some people refer to these as "brides" or "spouses."
I wonder if they can be domesticated...
I hope you enjoyed the swamp as much as I did!
You even had the added benefit of seeing this while staying warm! How lucky you all are! I'll probably have a do-over day and try to get some better shots. As winter will likely be over here soon, I might have better luck with non-frozen fingers.
See you next time!
All images taken by me with my Canon 6D.
This great i like it
If you're going to upvote yourself in a comment on my post, I'd at least expect an upvote for me. What you're doing is seen as bad etiquette. This is how you get downvoted to a negative reputation and end up not making any money.
I would suggest giving this some serious consideration.
Im surprised you haven't gotten a request to join some sports competition thats completely unrelevant to the post. Seems like thats been happening a lot lately too.
Also looking to finally invest in a camera for taking pictures as the iPhone 7 just isn't getting it done anymore. Would you recommend the Canon 6D your pictures seems flawless.
i am so sory i am very like your post and sorry i thought i liked it.

Ahh one of those guys who likes to comment just to upvote himself and not the original post. You're killing it man!
You are a man of your word, recently you promised to post some pictures and a story about a walk you would make very soon. You did and I enjoyed it very much. I don't know this kind of landscape and despite the weather, you made some very nice pictures. It looks not so cold with that clear blue sky, but you wrote that is was unseasonably cold with a biting wind so you two really 'fought against the elements'.
We don't have swamps in the Netherlands, where we live for half of the year, although it rained so much lately the meadows became swamps more or less. We are in France right now and it is very cold here, around the freezing point, and it started snowing this evening.
Thanks for this post, I hope to see more in the future.
I see no bikini.
Brogawker...it was like, 48 degrees. Fahrenheit!
Balmy!
you had a nice day :) thanks for sharing with us.
I think you caught the flying animals nice and successful :) congratulations.
I like photos very much :)
I think these are my first pictures I have seen of a swamp here on steemit and I really enjoyed them.
The birds and nature is just so beautiful and interesting. The white bird is with its bright feet is so beautiful.
Absolutely loved and enjoyed your post @ats-david.
Have to love the nature.
Awesome action shots of the pelican. I call Louisiana home so this hits the soul.
The swamp things don't just live in the swamps. I surprised this one doing, we'll I'm scared to know, what? As far as domestication I would be VERY cautious. I've heard they're gentle when they're young but will get testy the older they get.
I've also heard that they tend to domesticate us. Shocking!
@ats-david, After long time I see you again with awesome travel experience. Very beautiful natural captures you taken it's really cool one. I any-time mix with nature and natural winds. I think these places better for relaxation. The birds really enjoying with inland water. Weather is very cool I saw.
Finally I was expecting this for a long time , but I'm disappointed that there aren't any adidas nor streams. I love how you monetize your photography skills <3
Streaming Adidas will be in the next post. Stop-motion animation, probably. Watch for it!
You might not think the photos are great, but I thought they were pretty damn good. Haha. Excited to see the photos once you upgrade and think they're great
Simple answer? Nope.
What if you entice them with shiny objects? Do you think that could get them on the right path?
Possible, but it depends on the size...
Same with everything else.
All pictures are nicely taken .
Please write posts on how to take good pictures . It will be helpful for beginner photographers like me .

It is a place rich in natural beauty . All pictures are pretty beautiful. It is very difficult to take pictures to flying things . You have done this job very well. Birds are so beautiful.... I really enjoyed the place and your photography. Thanks for sharing ....
gotta love Florida winters...always gotta watch out for those drunk birds too!
lol, great writeup and cool swamp thing photos. 😄 My favs: drunk bird, weather balloon, and that magnificent creature at the end.

I wish I had taken some Steem cash out and bought a lens now. Lesson learned I guess.
I think these are my first pictures I have seen of a marsh here on steemit and I truly delighted in them.
The winged animals and nature is simply so lovely and fascinating. The white winged animal is with its splendid feet is so wonderful.
