What a Beach! Volume 1.1

in #photography8 years ago

My wife and I managed to maneuver around most of the punji sticks on the beach and continued along the shoreline.

If you missed the last post and have no idea what I'm talking about, you can find it here: What a Beach! Volume 1.0

So here we were on the beach near the large sand dunes, minding our own business and walking casually along the coast. When out of nowhere, we saw...

A log!

IMG_0367-1.jpg

Here is the same exciting log from a different angle. (As you can see, the punji stick booby traps are real, but we managed to successfully avoid serious injury!)

IMG_0369-1.jpg

After being overly concerned about our feet, we took the opportunity to look up to the skies after we cleared the hazards.

IMG_0375-1.jpg

IMG_0377-1.jpg

We didn't journey far from our beach entry point...

IMG_0378-1.jpg

But it was far enough to encounter some dune shrubbery...

IMG_0373-1.jpg

And more sea oats and things...

IMG_0411-1.jpg

And a misplaced, dead tree.

IMG_0381-1.jpg

IMG_0388-1.jpg

Oh my god, it's a whale! (Do you see it?)

IMG_0390-1.jpg

Wow! Very art!

IMG_0397-1.jpg

It is a beach. Confirmed.

IMG_0400-1.jpg

After being sufficiently sun-soaked and salty, we made our way back over the monstrous dunes.

IMG_0403-1.jpg

IMG_0413-1.jpg

IMG_0415-1.jpg

On our way, we made a new, fabulous flying friend!

IMG_0417-1.jpg

There were more wildflowers growing along the side of the road.

IMG_0424-1.jpg

IMG_0427-1.jpg

Some of them had little baby creatures snacking on their flowery parts.

IMG_0428-1.jpg

Then we made it to the road and crossed over. Our next stop: The parking area! (Trust me - it's more exciting than it sounds.)

IMG_0437-1.jpg

That's it for Volume 1.1, but be sure to come back for the next post in the What a Beach! series.

All photos taken with my Canon 6D, paid for with my Steemit earnings!

@Ats-David... I did miss Your first part of the Beach Excursion... so will go back and read it.

Was smiling & chuckling the entire way through this post... >> : ~ ))... Thanks 4 the humor...

...BUT I really could not see the "whale" in that piece of driftwood but will keep trying over the next few days.

Thanks 4 Sharing...Have a Good Weekend !!

Quick Note: Okay... read the previous"What a Beach" Volume 1...AND I read every single comment BUT couldn't find any hints where this Beach is located. My Best Guess is one of the Carolina's but You demurred on that guess by someone else... >> : ~ )) ... Thanks Again !!

Where the beach is and where the whale is in that photo...both mysteries!

Thanks for reading though! I'm glad you enjoyed the posts!

Smilesss... David, You Truly are THE Slayer of Good Content. Thanks Again !!

Man, if you continue to post such pictures I will never return to office on Monday...

Well...would that be a bad thing?

hmm... well, if I start to think about it maybe this would be a GOOD thing

lol, that's a nice booby trap for such a log.
Beautiful photo of the misplaced, dead tree.
I love seeing your photo's + stories. Keep em coming :)

Thank you. I will certainly do that. I have plenty of photos to share!

I wouldn't expect anything less ;-)
I've just posted a new (urbex) post that you maybe could check out and share your thoughts about. It would be much appreciated :)

I'm not sure if it's you or me, but the first few pics don't seem to have made it! The others are great!!! Nice resolution.

I think it might be you. They're loading for me on different browsers/devices.

I couldn't see the first 4-5, I just got an icon with the jpeg number

Beautiful shots man. Makes me jealous of what seems to be amazing wheather!

Over here (Netherlands) were experiencing a lot of rain currently and hardly any sun :(

I would love to do a workout run along the coastline on that beach...

Make sure you run close to the water, or else you might end up with lots of holes in your feet!

Is the whole beach boobytrapped like that?

You brought that dead tree with you, didn't you?

Yeah, you got me. The place just looked a little too lively for my tastes. Some dead stuff really makes me feel more at home.

Not pictured: the not-alive baby seal that I also brought with me.

"Slayer of Baby Seals" as well now, hm?

What a fun journey. Punji sticks or legos... what hurts a foot worse?

There's no greater pain than a Lego assault to your foot^^

I haven't stepped on a Lego in years and years...so I'll go with the punji sticks.

Wow those pictures are amazing! Mother nature works in mysterious ways. One second she is showing her beauty in the form of drift wood art, and the next second she is stabbing your feet with another piece of drift wood lol. #LIFE

Great shots and great follow up to the infamous punji sticks story @ats-david! You've gotta include some of those wildflowers in an upcoming Steemit Photo Challenge or color challenge!

I especially like the first image of the tree stump looking on to the beach. Great use of foreground interest and an overall nice compostion. I also like the final shot of the road, a nice vanishing point used to good effect.

I'd be interested to know what editing software you use, or do you shoot jpg in camera?

These photos were shot in jpeg and I used Lightroom for some minor lighting/color corrections.

That's interesting, that Canon 6D really retains a lot of detail in its jpegs. I always shoot in raw, but it does end up taking up a lot of hard drive space.

I find that a light touch often works best in post processing, and you've certainly exhibited a subtle editing technique here. Nicely done :)

Yeah, I've been shooting in RAW+jpeg since then. I have two 32 GB cards now, so I have plenty of space. And my computer has a 2 TB hard drive. No worrying about file sizes for me!

fantastic pictures.

I enjoyed your tongue-in-cheek style, although I'm sure many went on to praise you for your artistic rendering of the parking lot :)

Seriously though, that one photo of the piece of standing driftwood was beautiful.

Good Work!

Nice

I think you'd do really well on the instagram version for steemit. I think there's one out there now. Enjoyed each and every picture especially the one of the bark in the sand. The closeup was real swell. Keep em' coming. Cheers!

Wonderful pictures @ats-david ! Especially love the dead tree pics - I know a dead tree is kind of sad, but so beautiful all the same!! Off to look at 1.0 now :-)

I don't know why but somehow I've got feeling like it's your 8 years old son (if you have one) wrote this. LOL

Beautiful thanks for sharing!

I like the log and wood that is out there. They have a pretty artistic feel about them

I'm going to go into photography on Steem, I'll try to get close to your work, it's quality !! ;D

ferry good

It was last year when I visited a beach for the first time ever and was blown away by the vastness of the ocean. Brought the memories back. Good post my friend!

Wow, so cool @ats-david
I really enjoy your story, this is truly an amazing journey full of obstacles.
To see the stunning beauty it takes a lot of challenges through the sand, see the sky, find whales, past weeds, moments that can not be forgotten and meet the beautiful sea.

Beautiful these wooden walkways. The dunes are very delicate .... A nice solution that fits very well in the landscape..The sea is dark! Ocean...

ahh love these.. cant wait to be on the beach...

Any sunset or sunrise ftom the water there? I'm just fascinated by every beach where you can see that beautiful light. Great photos!

Very interesting post! The photos are soothing and very relaxing to the eye and the mind.

Amazing Place!
