While everywhere in Japan you get amazing sushi, ramen or anything.. Somehow on their biggest airport food is not good at all.
Of course not good for Japan, but good enough vs other parts of the world.
If you leave Tokyo i suggest to eat in local spot and take just coffee on the airport.

I'm going in March. Good tip! We generally have a rule when travelling. Don't eat within 1km of an airport or station. Served us pretty well so far....and when i've broken the rule...ughhhhh

I only usually eat chains in airports.
There are some good places in the airport, and even 'bad for Japan' is pretty good compared to other countries :)

Absolutely agree with you. I also had one, and they were not "cost-effective" at all.
From all airport restaurants serve quick food only except very rare cases.
In Toyko, you could be recommended by hotel front desk.
Famous local spots need reservation in advance and wait long in the line.
Food at any airport wouldn't win any awards, well, maybe in a fancy airport. The food at the airports are served for the mass market, quick and easy, but definitely not tasty. Yet, when you spend up to three to four hours at the airport (this is not including stopovers), you are bound to get peckish and therefore you succumb to the choices you have at the airports.
Still looks fairly delicious (love Japanese food) and I am sure it managed to fill a hole in your stomach.

It's true. Better to just have some coffee. The food at Japan airport are really not that great.
One exception is Hokkaido New Chitose airport. They sell a wide variety of food, and even fresh seafood like Crabs! I would say it is the best airport in Japan.
