Each year we get an opportunity to photograph a rodeo in western Kansas. I do enjoy the rodeo and getting a chance to turn it into business is always a welcomed event. This year was particularly hot, however, with high temperatures up to 109F (42.7C). This did change the event a bit with riders and livestock seemingly not as active.
One of the favorite events by the crowd is always the bull fighting. In this event, dressed participants taunt the bull to score style points with judges. The more crazy and daring your antics are with the bull, the higher the point reward. At this years event, twice the bull came out ahead. It's a dangerous game where people can and do sometimes get injured.
Awesome!! I love rodeos. I was just at one during the Pioneer Day celebration up in Snowflake/Taylor Arizona. However The video I got was so far away because I was in the stands. I wasn't an official videographer or anything like that. Your photos turned out spectacular!!
Thanks Matt. It was a hot, dusty event but I always have a good time. All shot on a Sony A9III and a Sony 70-200 so that helped get a little tighter shot.
You are welcome and awesome!!
How cool! My wife and I recently had the chance to visit the Greeley Stampede in Colorado. We didn't get to see the rodeo, but we did get to see a concert in the are where they have the rodeo. Our tickets got us general admission right in the chute. You took some great photos here!
Thanks! I can't help but love the rodeo. There are some real crazy people that try to make a living traveling that circuit, but many of them carry the effects for years to come as it's tough on the body. I'm happy to sit back and just take some photos :D
I don't blame you for that!
