That’s an alien egg sack ready to hatch a new slimy alien hatchling.
The background is the environment of the planet the egg is sitting on currently. A tough environment where the air is full of toxic gasses and other harsh chemicals that a human could not survive in.

Looks almost like a piece of meat, or a skinned animal of some sort to me. I used to live near a meat market in Costa Rica, it made me think of seeing the trucks unload.
