Well, at least that's what I think of when I see groupings of these beautiful flowers.
I'm talking about the pink mountain laurel that is so common in the woods of Central New Jersey.
They say that all parts of this plant are poisonous to humans and many animals, including deer.
But I've seen deer eating it at times. Looking further, you'll learn that deer will eat it as a last resort if other food sources are scarce. Some believe that by the deer browsing on many other types of plants, it leaves the mountain laurel to grow mostly unabated.
Just walking the trails you can see many nice groupings of mountain laurel. And it also grows well in the shade of the woods.
Anyways, it's at the peak of its bloom right now and it sure is pretty IMHO!

Will someone not do something?
How could somthing so beautiful be so deadly
Virgina will give hunters money to shoot deer. They cause a lot of traffic fatalities and have completely overridden the area. Though im sure this was not the answer you were looking for ;)
Aren't these gorgeous and unusual!
beautiful flowers!
I saw some bushes just like these today, on a college campus in western Oregon. I was wondering what they were -- and thanks to you, now I know! They are an impressive sight. It's nice to know they are a wild plant and not just a landscaping shrub. : )
These are cool! :D XO
